Core Alignment Therapy

Core Alignment Therapy is a combination of gentle bodywork therapy, education, body awareness training and practice. In essence, it will help you to become consistently more aware of your skeleton, so that you may experience all of the benefits that this brings.

The living human skeleton is at the core of our body. The overall alignment of the bones of the skeleton is of fundamental importance to our health and well-being. When your skeleton is well aligned, the bones support the weight of your body. This ensures that your muscles hold very little excessive tension. The muscles can then perform efficiently their task of initiating and sustaining movement.

If your skeleton is poorly aligned and off-centre, the muscles take over the task of support, causing a build-up of chronic muscular tension. This tension reduces ease, flexibility and range of movement, diminishing the grace and lightness of being that is our birthright.  The build-up of long-term muscular tension is the primary cause of many body pain problems and repetitive injuries. This tension can also be the starting point for other, more chronic health problems.

The bodywork treatment is done on a massage table, and is performed with the client fully clothed. Skeletal alignment is achieved by way of light, gentle corrections to the joints of the skeleton, and individual muscle releases via gentle pressures and stretches. Sometimes, simple exercises will be given, including breathing and body awareness practices.

Core Alignment Therapy is suitable for the majority of body pain problems that affect the back, neck, pelvis, shoulders and limbs. Core Alignment will also improve posture, flexibility and coordination, and may help to reduce habitual stress responses.
