What is Soul Midwifery? A Companion for the Soul
Soul Midwifery is a non-medical, holistic approach to palliative care, end-of-life and significant life transition care. As a Soul Midwife, I am not a medical professional, but a trained companion dedicated to supporting your emotional, spiritual, and practical needs during profound change. My role is to hold space, listen deeply, offer comfort, and help you navigate your journey with dignity, peace, and meaning.
· As a Soul Midwife: I offer support, witnessing your experience with compassion and without judgment. My focus will be on your needs, hopes, and wishes – honouring your unique story and spirit. I may integrate Reiki, EFT (Tapping) and Clinical Hypnotherapy to support your journey.
· Emotional and Spiritual Anchoring: provide steady, compassionate support through uncertainty, fear, and grief.
· Person-Centred Care: focused on your values, beliefs, and desires.
· Practical Guidance: help with navigating difficult conversations, planning, and creating meaningful rituals.
· Family Support: Easing the burden on loved ones, offering them guidance and respite.
· Dignity and Peace: Helping you find acceptance, closure, and a sense of completion.
For Individuals in Palliative Care
Palliative care is about living fully, even with illness. Soul Midwifery enhances this by:
· Deep Emotional Support: Being a consistent, compassionate presence to navigate the emotional rollercoaster – fear, anger, sadness, hope – providing validation and comfort.
· Spiritual Companionship: Exploring questions of meaning, faith, legacy, and connection (whatever form that takes for you) in a safe, non-directive way.
· Gentle Comfort: Using soothing touch and presence to alleviate anxiety, promote relaxation, and ease feelings of loneliness or being overwhelmed.
· Legacy Planning: Initiating gentle conversations and providing practical support for creating legacies now – recording stories, writing letters, organizing photos, planning small gatherings – ensuring your voice and values are preserved.
· Advocacy and Support: Helping you articulate your wishes and needs to family and medical teams, ensuring your voice remains central.
